Understanding and respect emerge from observing  the details, the moment to moment emotional states, the unique points of view, interests and responses, the agency of another.  Attunement is  receptivity to knowing, feeling, learning the inner world and experiences impacting another with no agenda except to 'see' and understand; it involves being emotionally available and vulnerable to the impacts affecting the other and carries a desire to influence where doing so can enhance well-being, but not over-taking, for the respect of the separateness and the agency of the other.
